Cómpeta Peaks

Higher level walks through the mountains and white villages of the Axarquia

Thank you all so much for a great holiday.  We loved every minute of it and Cómpeta was even nicer than I remembered”

Spanish Steps – Cómpeta Peaks

Once or twice a year, or by request, we offer Cómpeta based holidays exploring the more remote and higher level routes in our stunning sierras. Designed mainly for returning guests who have already walked our regular trails and for new guests likely to enjoy options for more strenuous walks. Walking times can be up to 6 hours a day. We avoid route marches and tedious climbs and use our 4×4 vehicles to get to the more distant trail heads
Accommodation for the holiday is in the Spanish Steps town house in the centre of Cómpeta. Furnished in Moorish style, the house has eight bedrooms, five bathrooms, sitting and dining rooms, all for sole use of our guests. Located close to the main Plaza Almijara the house provides a unique and truly Spanish environment for the holiday.

Meals throughout the week are taken at a variety of our favourite local restaurants. Some are simple and others are sophisticated, but they all provide excellent local cuisine and great atmosphere. We have breakfast in the Plaza and for lunch we may take picnics into the hills or stop for tapas at villages on the route.

ITINERARY

The town of Cómpeta sits on the edge if the sierras Tejeda and Almijara at an altitude of 600 metres. The highest peak in the sierras is La Maroma at an altitude of 2,069 metres and there are many other peaks higher than anything in the UK. We do not have a set itinerary for our Cómpeta Peaks holidays as walking the more remote and higher level paths is dependent on the prevailing weather conditions and general strength of the group.
Walks on our regular holidays are classified as Level 2. On our Cómpeta Peaks holidays we include options for more strenuous walks up to Level 3. Please see notes  – What about the Walks on More Information page.

TRAVEL

Airport transfers from and back to Malaga are provided at specified times. This is normally 2.00 pm  on arrival but may be brought forward if the last arrival clears before then. On departure, our transfer normally leaves Cómpeta after breakfast  arriving at Malaga airport around 11.00 am. Transfers are normally by minibus and take just over an hour. If you have problems with flight times please get in touch to discus options.

Reviews & Visitors Book

“We had a fantastic holiday.  The walks were wonderful and the views stunning.  The people great and it’s the people that make the holiday. A big thank you to Andy for his guiding and patience and to you and Sue for letting us stay in your beautiful Spanish house and for your hospitality. This was one of the best guided group holidays we have been on” Beverly & Brian High Cómpeta Peaks  Oct 2019

“I can only repeat what I have been saying since my previous week in Competa years ago – Spanish Steps is an experience unequaled in my opinion.  The quality and charm of the house reflects the quality and effort that you put into making sure that everyone enjoys the week from the crazy( but fabulous) breakfasts right through each day until we climb those high steps to bed!!  You do a really great job!”   Mary (Ireland) Cómpeta Peaks Oct 2019
