Cómpeta Based
The home of Spanish Steps
Cómpeta has been the base for Spanish Steps for over 25 years. This unique pueblo, situated on the very edge of the high sierras is a perfect hiking location offering walks with stunning mountain and sea views. After so many years experience, we are able offer walks of great variety to suit all walking abilities. Our regular Cómpeta Based holidays should appeal to walkers looking for meaningful full day walks, some in hilly terrain but always at a leisurely pace. Our Cómpeta Peaks holidays offer a different program of walks using more remote and higher level routes. Accommodation for the week is in our personal Casa Rurale or the Posada de Cani close by. Meals and breakfasts throughout the week are provided at excellent local restaurants, regarded by many as being another highlight of the holiday.
Sierras to the Sea
Mountains to the Mediterranean
This single base guided walking holiday is a revised version of our long running Silk Trail holiday using Cómpeta as a base for the 7 nights and vehicle transfers to and from trail heads. The walk follows the length of the south facing slopes of the Sierra Almijara connecting pretty white villages on the way. Each of the five sections of the linear trail are ‘classic’ walks’ in their own right with great scenery, views and interest. The walks are rated as Level 2 with the offer of more strenuous options on some days, including an exciting new Day 2 walk crossing the stunning Almachares Gorge.
Route of the Pueblos Blancos
Ronda to Grazalema
This seven night guided walking adventure begins in Ronda with a one-night stay in the historic centre of this most famous of the Andalucia white towns – known as Los Pueblos Blancos. Our unique ‘Route of the Pueblos Blancos’ ends in Grazalema with a four-night stay in this stunning white town. A perfect location for our rest day and base for our last two walks. On route we stay for two nights in Montejaque, one of the smaller pueblos visited throughout the week. Each daily walk is about 12 km through hilly and sometimes dramatic scenery with superb views. Meals are provided at good local restaurants and bags are transported between locations. Transfers from Malaga airport and return are provided at specified times.
Journey through Al Andalus
Rail & Hike through Moorish Spain
This unique walking holiday visits some of the finest historical towns and cities in Andalucia plus exceptional walks and hikes in stunning locations. The journey begins in Granada and includes a visit to the Alhambra Palaces and ends in the Moorish centre of Malaga. On route the itinerary includes Antequera with a spectacular walk in El Torcal, Córdoba, Ronda and the amazing Caminito del Rey, rated by Lonely Planet as one of the ‘must do’ walks in the world. The town and country walks are up to 5 hours with shorter options on most days. Travel between locations is by Spain’s impressive high speed rail network. What better way for ‘walking people’ to enjoy the very best of Andalucia?
Two Continents
Tarifa to Fes
This exciting 8-day walking holiday includes walks in Spain and Morocco. The first two nights are spent in Tarifa, with the first walk high above the Straights of Gibraltar. You then cross to Africa for a coastal walk with great views back to Europe and then continue to Chefchaouen, surely the prettiest and most magical town in Morocco. You stay for three nights in an amazing riad in the medina with walks in the Rif mountains and villages. The last two nights are spent in Fés, the oldest and most interesting of the ‘imperial’ cities in Morocco. From Fés there are inexpensive direct flights back to the UK and Malaga, or the option to return to Tarifa by rail and ferry.
Cómpeta Peaks
